The Second Place award in the Anchorage Crystal Gallery of Ice carving completion went to a team of Chinese artists who carved a dragon. The dragon won first place in the artists own balloting.
The third place went to “Embrace” carved by Nathan Turnbull and Denise Portmann. They used a blow torch to finish the piece and give it the smooth finish. I love the way the lights shine thorough it.
Ten teams competed, three from China.
Tomorrow I will post pictures from other entries. They all were magical. (Actually I’ve already posted it but scheduled it to run tomorrow. I will be “off the grid” north of Fairbanks at Chena Hot Springs soaking up the waters, visiting the ice museum and hotel and looking for Northern Lights through the cloud cover that I hope breaks.)
Astounding!
It’s okay, the dragons still win in other ways!!!
