Our little red sutcase seems to have enjoyed its travels last cruise because it has convinced the rest of our baggage to go walkabout with it. FedEx, Contracted by Luggage Forward, picked up our bags on December 16th. According to the tracking site our bags never left Sitka. We called Luggage Forward on December 20, “not to worry.” We followed up with emails. Today Luggage Forward called and asked “uh, can you describe your bags?”
They can’t seem to find our bags anywhere in the system, their records showed them not leaving Sitka. We went to the Sitka FedEx office, in a hanger at the airport. Fed Ex told us that they packed our bags into an Alaska Airlines container and that container has not been seen since. All the outgoing FedEx from that day is missing.
Luggage Forward says it is FedEx’s fault, FedEx says it’s Alaska Airlines, Alaska Airlines says it is FedEx. It’s déjà vu all over again. We called Holland America and asked them to kick someone, since they were the ones who contracted by Luggage Forward. I feel like I am in the middle of a circle with people passing bucks all around me.
The good news is that I have lost 60 pounds. The bad news is that the only sports coat and suit that fit me at my current size are in those bags, along with our snorkel gear, shorts, sandals, and other summer things that we don’t need in winter in Alaska and don’t have spares of. So, if you see me on a formal night in the main dining room in jeans or cargo pants please cut me some slack.
And offer some prayers to St. Anthony.
This is the third time we have had luggage problems. In 2023 one suitcase never made it to the ship, It arrived late in Fort Lauderdale and ended up driving around in the delivery man’s truck until after we sailed. It followed us to Jamacia, Panama and Tahiti before it Alaska Airlines lost it, found it in Salt Lake City, and sent it home to Sitka to wait for us.
In 2025 our Little Red Suitcase never made it to Fort Lauderdale and Luggage Forward did not get it to us until Santiago, Chile, three weeks into the cruise.

When I saw the headline, I assumed you were recalling the previous issues and were going to report that all was well THIS TIME – I can’t believe this is happening again! How can they lose an entire container!
