Virtual Food Trucks

I’ve written a lot about the ports of call this trip but not nearly as much as I usually do about life at sea on this Grand Holland America voyage.  Usually during a cruise, I have more posts than days on the cruise because I often post an additional photo gallery to accompany an already photo packed post.  I also posted more about events on the ship. This post is number 72 and I am writing it on day 88.  On this trip I am posting less about sea days and it took me a while to figure out why.  2926Many of the events are food or alcohol based and I am trying to limit attendance at high chloric events.  I’ve lost about 65 pounds over the last couple of years and want to keep losing.  I’ve attended only one wine tasting (complete with cheese and fruit), usually I attend more than that.  I skipped both ice cream socials, and I love ice cream.  I haven’t gone to many of the specialized dinners and today I am skipping the Mariners’ ceremony and lunch, making that decision after looking at the menu and deciding it was just too large a meal.  If I went, I would eat it all.  So, in removing temptation I am lowering my blog post output.  I am still enjoying the sea days, the lectures and entertainment, but not attending some of the memorable events that cry out to be blogged about.

An exception was the street food event on the sea day before Nuka Hiva.  This is the second such event on the ship this cruise, I skipped the first one, but decided to indulge, the cruise is coming to an end and I love some of the food on offer.  And, yes, I did eat too much.

They did not actually bring food trucks on board but they set up virtual food trucks with East Asian, South Asian, Mexican, Italian, and several types of American, including hot dogs at one, buffalo wings at another and a sweets booth with candy floss. (The only way I can remember to floss my teeth, but not what Dr. Jacobsen meant.)

I enjoyed a broad mix, empanadas, tacos, Italian pastry, onion rings, pulled pork, cole slaw, to name a few, but I fear, only a few.  I was stuffed but happy and given we will not be docked for another week there is no scale that can accurately weigh me so I have time to recover although with the cruise winding down, I will be probably tempted to indulge a few more times.
