For a full sea day before landing on Robinson Crusoe Island both the Cruise Director and Captain had been warning us about the tender operation. It would be bouncy, it would be slippery, if you have any doubts stay on the ship. We had been to Robinson Crusoe Island before and decided, when we got up, to wait a while before taking the tender. It was raining and miserable out. By the time it cleared up at around noon I was preparing for a zoom board meeting so decided to enjoy the island from the ship. I walked around the promenade framing island views and taking pics through the mist and rain, with a bit of bright light near the end.

Ten years ago, we loved the island. Here is a link to look at the pictures of the island in bright sunshine and to learn the story behind the island. To tell it briefly, Scottish Privateer Alexanser Selkirk was marooned on this island and lived alone for 44 months at the beginning of the 18th century. After his rescue he became kind of a celebrity in Britain and Daniel Defoe wrote what some consider the first English novel very loosely based on Selkirk’s adventures. The islands were originally the Juan Fernandez Islands but were renamed, in a successful attempt to lure tourists, as Robinson Crusoe Island and Alexander Selkirk Island.
