On the longest day of the year we joined the Annual Raven Radio Summer Solstice Cruise on one of the Allen Marine Tours boats. Allen Marine supports non-profits in Sitka by donating their boats for fundraising cruises. According to Rob Allen, Raven Radio was the first non-profit his dad did this for. It was a solstice salmon cruise. Rob, then a student, was one of the deck hands.
This year Maia Carter provided music and the board provided food while we watched for wildlife.

Along the way we saw Whales. They were active, including several breaches, which I did not catch on camera. For one I was climbing the stairs to the top deck and saw it right in front of me as I reached the top. For the second the person in front of me put up his arm to shield his eyes from the sun so I got an out of focus elbow, but I did get the splash.

We saw a raft of sea otters.

And you are almost always guaranteed to see sea lions on buoy number 2.

It was a beautiful evening to be out.

And we were joined by a Raven Radio Alumnus, Kurt Hunter, who started as a high school student at Raven Radio and has come back to film (well no one used film anymore) a documentary on Raven Radio.
