I rolled over I bed and saw a red glow where the curtains parted. I grabbed my phone and my pants and went out onto our balcony. The sun was rising behind me. As we turned into Honolulu Harbor the sunrise shifted to behind Diamond Head and then to behind the city. Finally, as the ship turned to dock, the sunset was behind the Aloha Tower, the iconic spot where, for decades, the Madson Liners from the mainland, put passengers ashore.

After a day of whale watching and a little walking it was time for sunset. I stood aft on Zaandam and watched the sun sink behind a Coast Guard Cutter as a bugle played “Evening Call-Retreat” sounding across the water just as the sun sank behind the cutter. It was magic.

And I also thought of my dad. Every time he heard that call, with me at scout camp or in a movie, he would sing along with the three most famous notes. “Drink Cold Beer, Drink Cold Beer.” For Pop it meant work was over and he could, well, drink cold beer.

Nice photos
Love the pics, especially as I would never be awake to see a sunrise.
BTW—did your luggage arrive in your cabin???
Did your missing luggage arrive?
We watched your arrival from our condo. Enjoy our islands!
Aloha!
Yes, I will post that one later because there is a story (with me there is always a story.)
