We lived in Slovakia for 27 months between 1997 and 1999. It was a wonderful place to live. Bratislava is small enough to get around on foot if you live in the center. Traffic was not terrible so we could drive to places nearby. It was not too expensive but within an hour of Vienna, two hours of Budapest and three hours of Prague. But there was much to do in Bratislava, of “Blava”, itself. When we lived in Slovakia there was a border with Vienna and sometimes long lines to get into the EU. Now Slovakia is in the EU and, compared to other former Soviet Bloc nations, is doing pretty well.
We have very few pictures from Slovakia when we lived there, but we return often to visit friends and enjoy this friendly, hard working and beautiful country. Most of the pictures on the pages of this blog were taken in 2004, 2008 and 2011.
