One of the great joys of riding on a train is watching life along the tracks.  Unlike roads there are no restaurants or gas stations.  You look into people’s back yards or into their homes themselves.

You pass dry rice fields.  It is the dry season now and farmers are waiting for the May rain to fill the “tanks” or ponds.  Then they’ll open the sluice gates and, hopefully, there’ll be enough rain for two crops before the dry season comes around again.  Even though it’s dry some farmers are preparing the fields.

Of course we also get to see all sorts of rolling stock, track and railroad signals along the way.

And rolling through train stations at very slow speed you see the faces of those waiting to travel.
