Sitka gets relatively little color at sea level. Some imported maples color out red, the mountain ash gets bright red berries and the alder give us some yellow but look up. The mountain sides that were green become gold, rust and amber. In the few days between when I see the color on the mountainside and termination dust (first snow on the mountains for you cheechakoes) I try to make the run up Harbor Mountain to look both at the fall vistas across the islands and inlets and the ground cover as it turns the distinct colors that blend into a common hue when you look up from sea level. Some years I don’t make it, this year I did. Today, September 30, 2018 was the day. It was a magical day to drive up get out of the car, and ramble.
very beautiful nature photographs!
Vivaldi comes to mind…
Love the colors. Thanks Rich
Yes, Vivaldi, or perhaps Glazunov. It was a wonderful day for a hike.
