I booked this tour because I’m a train nut. But in the event, it was the gondola ride down from Kuranda that caught my fancy. The gondola holds six people but they only put in four. It flies over and through the rainforest and over the waterfalls while going down the mountain. As one of our gondola mates said, “at my age, better than a zip line.” But over this mountainous terrain you can “zip” up as well as down.

The gondola slows at two points; Barron Falls and at one of those “up” points where you can hop out walk a boardwalk trail. The Barron Falls trail had two lookouts on the other side of the falls from where the train stopped.

The second slow down point has a rainforest boardwalk trail. We could have taken a ranger led walk but the timing didn’t work out. I wish I had gotten a good picture of a ranger in uniform (as opposed to the silhouette that I did get Unlike our park rangers, in khaki Boy Scout style uniforms with smoky bear J.B. Stetsons these rangers had shorts (ok, some of or rangers have shorts too) colorful rainforest patterned “t” shirts with “Ranger” on the back and a not so crisp bush hat.

The walk was well interpreted with signs and was a highlight of the ride down.

I may have taken the same tour, but in the opposite directions. I had the cable car going up, and train back down. The views are incredible!
Very much enjoying your posts and pics. Thanks for posting your trip.
