Art in Bloom

For more than four decades “Art in Bloom” has been a feature of the Minneapolis Institute of Art.  Each April the institute invites 100 florists, floral artists, funeral directors, people who work in flowers, to interpret works in the permanent collection with flowers.  Some of the artists try to mimic the art, some reflect it, some frame it, and some try to match the palette.  It is one of the most imaginative art exhibits I have experienced.  This year set a record with more than 60,000 attending during the four days.  Suzi and I attended with Brian and Liz and granddaughter Fiona.

Some of the floral artists were busy replacing wiling blooms and tucking in a stem here or there.  Others were there to answer questions or to talk about how they related to the work of art.  I understand they chose works after getting a number in a draw.   Here is a gallery of my pics from the art gallery.

For some of the arrangements and works I took two pictures showing different angels or aspects.

There were activities for us as well, like flower arrangement.

It was a beautiful spring day in the institute’s garden.
