It’s been a while since I logged onto the blog. I have been posting on Facebook but have been busy enough that I haven’t done much writing. The last week we have had a succession of storms battering our coast. While on the air Friday the Emergency Alert System triggered 4 times telling mariners to seek safe harbor because of approaching storm cells along various parts of our coast. Raven Radio, with it’s repeaters, serves over three hundred miles of coastline so there is a lot of territory to cover with emergency signals, and for much of that coastline we are it as far as signal goes, unless you are satellite equipped.
But on Thursday we had a sucker hole and I went for a walk along the Starrigavan Estuary Boardwalk. I got caught in the rain at the end, but that’s ok, I’m waterproof. But the water on the grain of the wood brought out the patterns. The water is different depths depending on the grain and that can bring out colors that you normally don’t see. It also gives the boardwalk an oily sheen although it is not oiled. It also makes walking a bit tricky, my shoes like to hydroplane on the skin of water on top of the boards. While I took pictures along the way, which I posted on Facebook, these pictures of the boards themselves interested me enough to want to do a blog post. Here they are.

Love the pics! Thanks!
Funny, I am on Facebook a LOT and haven’t seen any posts from you in a long time. Must be their algorithms, but it is unfortunate at best. I am glad you wrote this blog.
Love these. How beautiful the simplest of things can be. Thanks for posting. I do Zentangles and I can see them as a Tangle in my future and possibly in a watercolor.
Ruth, it’s funny because my Facebook posts have exploded with shares. One topped a quarter million and one over 150K. I don’t understand it except that once I started getting views Facebook is trying to get me to run adds on them to boost me further. I suspect they jury rigged the algorithm to boost my posts in order to recruit me.
Those are amazing pictures of the wood and what water does to the grain.
I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Facebook did exactly that. I am sure we have Facebook friends in common, and I would have (at least) picked them up that way.
I received your friend request and, of course, accepted immediately. THAT should solve the problem.
Thanks!
